Description
This report details the design and implementation of March On!, a month-long virtual step challenge aimed at promoting physical activity among Washington County residents. Developed in partnership with the Community Health Action Team and the IU Center for Rural Engagement, the initiative provided participants with resources such as an interactive physical activity map, a step compendium, and social media engagement through Facebook. Despite strong planning, participation and data collection were limited due to barriers like technology complexity, low engagement with online tools, and pandemic-related constraints. The report includes survey instruments, intervention results, and recommendations for future improvements, emphasizing simplified processes, hybrid digital and paper options, and community partnerships to enhance accessibility and motivation.
This report reflects original research and recommendations developed by students in SPH-K 556 Physical Activity Assessment in Public Health for Washington County as part of the 2020–21 Indiana University Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative. The views expressed are those of the students and do not represent the official positions of Indiana University, the Center for Rural Engagement, Sustaining Hoosier Communities, or Washington County.
