Platons Paradox des Bildes und die Instabilitat des Wortes in Goethes Iphigenie auf Tauris

Abstract

Simulakra oder Trugbilder verwirren in Goethes Schauspiel die Ordnung des Seienden und Nichtseienden derartig, dafi die Wahrnehmbarkeit des Wirklichen fraglich wird. Auch die Worter des Orakels sind triigerisch, solange sie kontextunabhangig als Abbilder des Wirklichen verstanden werden. Dementgegen versucht Goethe, die Eigenstandigkeit von Bild und Wort zu denken.

Simulacra or deceptive images confuse the orders of the real and the non-real to such a degree in Goethe’s play that perception of reality becomes unreliable. Readings of the oracle’s words as mimetic representations risk misinterpretation if they do not recognize that words belong to this realm of deceptive images. Orest’s task is to recognize images and words as distinct from reality.
