Abstract

This session will cover information that will make the submission, as well as review and approval process, of human subjects research protocols at Indiana University. The presentation will cover various regulatory topics to provide clarification, as well as providing information about the review and approval process at IU, including specific directions and guidance for using the Kuali Protocols system.

Description

Casey Mumaw joined IU’s Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) in 2011, earned his CIP credentials in 2013 and serves as the Assistant Director leading the team that reviews social/behavioral and educational (SBE) research, as well as being an IRB member. In addition to reviewing protocols and supervising staff, he also provides input on HRPP policies, expertise on regulatory and ethical issues related to SBE research, and training to IU researchers. He has been a regular speaker at PRIM&R’s AER conferences, as well speaking at AAHRPP’s annual conference, the California State University IRB Forum, OHRP’s 2022 RCF in Indianapolis, and the Anatomy Education Research Institute’s annual conference. Casey is also a regular contributor to PRIM&R’s IRB Forum and has served as a member of PRIM&R’s Blog Squad. Outside of work, he is an avid home chef, runner, and science fiction fan. He enjoys traveling with his wife, Rachel, with whom he has one thoroughly mediocre cat.
