Abstract

At the request of R. W. Armstrong, the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology (GBL) performed a cultural resources survey of the proposed location for the realignment of Burton Lane and the replacement of Bridge No. 42, south of Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana. Approximately 0.3 acres was surveyed. The purposes of the survey were 1) to identify and document all of the cultural resources in the project area, 2) to evaluate any cultural materials found with regard to their eligibility for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and the Indiana Register of Historic Sites and Structures (IRHSS), and 3) to make recommendations for the protection of significant and potentially significant sites. Fieldwork was conducted September 15, 1998 by GBL archaeologists Wendy L. Natt and Amanda S. Roth. No cultural materials were cliscovered. Cultural resource clearance is recommended for the realignment of Burton Lane and for replacement of Bridge No. 42.
