Abstract
Description
This report presents a series of youth program proposals designed to enhance physical, mental, and social well-being for children and teens in Washington County. Developed by Indiana University SPH-R 220 students, the programs include initiatives such as fitness classes, cognitive development bootcamps, teen self-care camps, and recreational events like Move & Groove and Color Crawl. Each program emphasizes the YMCA’s mission to build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, while addressing community needs such as mental health support, physical activity engagement, and family involvement. Recommendations cover scheduling, staffing, budgeting, marketing strategies, safety protocols, and evaluation methods to ensure sustainable and impactful programming.
This report reflects original student research and recommendations from Indiana University SPH-R 220 Foundations of Public, Non-profit, & Community Recreation in collaboration with the Washington County YMCA as part of the 2020–21 Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative. The views expressed are those of the students and do not represent Indiana University, the Center for Rural Engagement, or the Washington County YMCA.
