Abstract

Although stratigraphic nomenclature within the Borden Group of early Valmeyeran age has remained stable in Indiana since Stockdale's (1929,1931) definitive studies, recognition of the boundary between the Locust Point Formation and the overlying Carwood Formation has not been practicable outside the type area of the Borden and its subdivisions in Harrison, Floyd, and Clark Counties. The Locust Point and the Carwood form a depositional unit of delta-slope sediments in the middle part of the Borden deltaic sequence. They overlie the prodelta sediments of the New Providence Shale and underlie the delta-platform sequence of the Edwardsville Formation.
