Abstract

The formation that has been called Golconda Limestone in Indiana is equivalent to the Haney Limestone of southern Illinois and western Kentucky rather than to the entire Golconda Group. The name Haney is here adopted for this formation, which crops out in seven counties in southwestern Indiana and is recognized also in the subsurface. It is 20 to 40 feet thick and consists principally of limestone and dolomite with minor chert. Pentremites and Archimedes are the most prominent elements of the fauna.
