Archives of Institutional Memory at IU

Abstract

Institutional repositories have been created primarily to disseminate and preserve faculty research and the scholarly output of academic departments, institutes, centers and research units. IU's Archives of Institutional Memory (AIM) was created to collect, preserve and make available those records that do not fit neatly into the typical DSpace environment, namely the official records of the University, such policy documents, annuals reports, and IU Bulletins. At this presentation the University Archivist will review 1) the mission and objectives of AIM; 2) how AIM fits into the larger IU strategy for disseminating and preserving mission critical records; 3) the appraisal process for determining what goes into AIM; and 4) the preservation strategies that are being implemented, which will include a review of PDF/A as a preservation format.
