dc.description.abstractThis chapter analyzes the social dynamics and cultural meanings of male and female labor migration among Bamana speakers in the province of Sana, Segou region. It discusses the modalities of migration in the context of women’s and men’s position within the household, the ambiguities and tensions that emerged around migration during the 1980s and early 1990s, and local responses to these.
