Promoting Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy

Abstract

Description

This report outlines strategies to improve financial literacy among Washington County residents through targeted education programs for middle school students, young adults, and adults. Developed by students in the BUS-L 302 Sustainability Law & Policy course as part of the Indiana University Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative, the report emphasizes the role of financial literacy in fostering sustainable communities and economic resilience. Recommendations include age-specific curricula covering budgeting, saving, credit management, investing, and fraud awareness, as well as interactive tools like simulations and online courses. The proposed program aims to build generational wealth, reduce financial insecurity, and strengthen community well-being by promoting informed financial decision-making. This report reflects original student work and recommendations created for Washington County through the BUS-L 302 Sustainability Law & Policy course. The ideas and opinions expressed herein represent the perspectives of the students and do not necessarily reflect those of the Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative, the IU Center for Rural Engagement, Indiana University, or Washington County officials.
