Abstract
The Cold War, a 45-year conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union, came to a peaceful end in the early 1990s. Not merely a nuclear arms struggle, this war was a dispute of ideals and fundamental values. Its peaceful end was largely due to former United States' president Ronald Reagan. Reagan believed in the principles of freedom: he pursued an unwavering policy of peace through strength against an expanding Soviet nation. Through a review of literature and contemporary sources, this project will examine these principles to see their effect on this defining moment of history.
