Abstract
Description
The Comprehensive Bibliography of Chadic and Hausa Linguistics, 5th edition, includes approximately 3,500 linguistic works written on Chadic languages, of which about 2,000 are on Hausa, by far the largest and most widely spoken member of the family. The entries date from 1790 to the present. The bibliography contains published books and articles as well as unpublished Ph.D. dissertations and master’s theses. The Bibliography is international in scope and covers works written in various languages. Of the works cited, approximately 500 are written in French, 300 in German, 150 in Hausa, and 100 in Russian. Titles of works in foreign languages other than French or German are accompanied by English translations. Titles in Cyrillic script have been transliterated into Roman script. Book reviews are listed under the entry for the book being reviewed. In addition, there is a Book Review Author Index that indicates all the reviews written by any individual. Finally, the Bibliography contains a small section consisting of obituaries, (auto-)biographical essays, and related works on twenty major scholars, now deceased, who have contributed significantly to Chadic and/or Hausa linguistics. The first edition of this bibliography was published in 2012 at Bayreuth University. The second (2013), third (2015), and fourth (2018) editions were published at Indiana University by IUScholarWorks. This is an open access online work, fully and freely available for education, research, and other scholarly purposes.
