Abstract

Latent class analysis (LCA) is an intuitive and rigorous tool for uncovering hidden subgroups in a population. It can be viewed as a special kind of structural equation modeling in which the latent variables are categorical rather than continuous. This seminar will provide an introduction to LCA, which uses categorical items, as well as latent profile analysis (LPA), which uses continuous items. It is designed to get you thinking about how these approaches could be used in your own work to address new, innovative research questions.
