Abstract

Presents the findings from a national survey sent to area studies librarians. Schmidt concludes that more than 80% of area librarians spend half their time or more on area librarianship activities; further, approximately 40% of that time is spent on collection development tasks. Over 70% of area librarians hold an advanced subject degree in addition to an MLS and nearly 35% also hold a doctorate.
