Indigenous and Pacific Islander students and faculty in higher education

Abstract

Indigenous and Pacific Islander scholars are often the most invisible populations on college and university campuses, even though Native identities, cultures, and symbols are ubiquitous in higher education (Native mascots, luau themed parties). Yet very little is known about these complex, often marginalized communities, due to the limited amount of large-scale research focused on small populations. This poster will present findings about indigenous and Pacific Islander students and faculty from four years of data collection from hundreds of colleges and universities across the country. Participants will learn more about who these populations are, how these students are engaging in effective educational practices, and how these faculty are contributing to undergraduate student engagement.
