Abstract

On31 May 2005, the Glenn A. Black Laboratory Office of Cultural Resource Management (GBL-OCRM), Indiana University, conducted a Phase Ia archaeological survey for additional improvements to the intersection of Millersburg and green River Roads in Vanderburgh County, Indiana under contract with the Vanderburgh County Engineering Department. The purposes of survey were to: (1) identify and document all cultural resources in the project area; (2) provide an evaluation of National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and Indiana Register of Historic Sites and Structures (IRHSS); and (3) make recommendations for the protection of significant and potentially significant sites. This survey was conducted incompliance with Section 106 of the 1066 National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), as amended. Fieldwork was conducted by GBL-OCRM archaeologists George Mankowski and Bryan Will. No cultural resources were recovered while survey the project area. No further archaeological investigation is recommended. Cultural resource clearance is therefore recommended for the additional right-of-way, provided that all earth-moving activities are restricted to the currently delineated project area boundaries.
