Francis James Child’s Pastiche Opera Il Pesceballo: Background/history and performance score

Abstract

Description

A pastiche, almost by definition, has multiple authors. With Il Pesceballo Child was the conceptual artist, writing the Italian libretto for specific arias by V. Bellini, G. Donizetti, W.A. Mozart, G. Rossini. John Knowles Paine composed recitatives and interludes. James Russell Lowell provided the loose English translation. Brown, having gathered and uncovered the relevant materials, employed Eric Thomas Knechtges to transcribe, adapt, and create the performance score.
