Description
This report was developed by students in SPH-K553: Physical Activity in Health, SPH-K554: Seminar in Physical Activity & Wellness, SPH-K556: Physical Activity Assessment in Public Health, BIOL-X490: Biology Undergraduate Research, and BIOL-P451: Integrative Human Physiology at Indiana University in collaboration with the City of Mitchell through the 2017–2018 Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative. The report outlines the “What Moves You Mitchell?” campaign, a community-based public health initiative designed to address high rates of hypertension and physical inactivity in Mitchell, Indiana. The project includes educational materials, a physical activity map, a trail-use survey, and a proposed 12-week pedometer intervention program. Emphasizing a faith-based and community-centered approach, the campaign aims to increase physical activity, improve health outcomes, and foster long-term wellness in the Mitchell community.
This project was completed as a collaboration between the students in SPH-K553: Physical Activity in Health, SPH-K554: Seminar in Physical Activity & Wellness, SPH-K556: Physical Activity Assessment in Public Health, BIOL-X490: Biology Undergraduate Research, and BIOL-P451: Integrative Human Physiology and the City of Mitchell as part of the 2017–2018 Indiana University Sustaining Hoosier Communities (IUSHC) initiative. IUSHC is a program within the IU Center for Rural Engagement (CRE). This report represents original student work and recommendations proposed by the students in SPH-K553: Physical Activity in Health, SPH-K554: Seminar in Physical Activity & Wellness, SPH-K556: Physical Activity Assessment in Public Health, BIOL-X490: Biology Undergraduate Research, and BIOL-P451: Integrative Human Physiology for the City of Mitchell. The contents of this report represent the views of the students and do not reflect those of IUSHC, CRE, Indiana University, or the City of Mitchell.
