    XSEDE Cloud Survey Report

    A National Science Foundation-sponsored cloud user survey was conducted from September 2012 to April 2013 by the XSEDE Cloud Integration Investigation Team to better understand how cloud is used across a wide variety of scientific fields and the humanities, arts, and social sciences. Data was collected from 80 cloud users from around the globe. The project descriptions in this report illustrate the potential of cloud in accelerating research, enhancing collaboration, and enriching education. Cloud users provided extensive data on core usage, preferred storage, bandwidth, etc. and described cloud benefits and limitations for their specific use cases. Educators, research administrators, CIOs, and research computing practitioners may find value in this data when considering the use and/or deployment of public, private, or hybrid clouds to complement current cyberinfrastructure.

    XSEDE 2013 User Satisfaction Survey

    This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the XSEDE Annual Survey 2013. Section 1 describes the data collection methodology of the survey. The sample included 13 types of users with a sample size of 5000 users. The survey consisted of quantitative and qualitative questions designed to determine user satisfaction of XSEDE services and resources. The survey was available from February 11, 2013 through March 15, 2013. The overall response rate was 20.4% which represents a nearly 60% increase over the 2012 annual survey.

    This document is a summary of the activities of the Research Technologies division of UITS, a Service & Cyberinfrastructure Center affiliated with the Indiana University Pervasive Technology Institute, as part of the eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) during XSEDE Program Year 1 (1 July 2011 – 30 June 2012). This document consists of three parts: - Section 2 of this document describes IU’s activities as an XSEDE Service Provider, using the format prescribed by XSEDE for reporting such activities. - Section 3 of this document describes IU’s activities as part of XSEDE management, operations, and support activities funded under a subcontract from the National Center for Supercomputer Applications (NCSA), the lead organization for XSEDE. This section is organized by the XSEDE Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) plan. - Appendix 1 is a summary table of IU’s education, outreach, and training events funded and supported in whole or in part by IU’s subcontract from NCSA as part of XSEDE.

    Technical Report: TeraGrid eXtreme Digital Campus Cyberinfrastructure and Campus Bridging Requirements Elicitation Meeting

    In an effort to systematically investigate requirements for TeraGrid XD, the XROADS collaboration held during 2009 a series of requirements elicitation meetings (REM) with small groups of stakeholders. This report summarizes the conduct of and results from a requirements elicitation meeting on the topics of campus bridging and campus cyberinfrastructure. The meeting’s goal was to develop a clearer and more functional definition of what the next phase of the TeraGrid should do to be a resource broadly useful to and used by university and college campuses throughout the US.

    This document describes the methodology and results of a survey of researchers as regards their cyberinfrastructure needs and preferences. The purpose of this survey was to elicit information and requirements from researchers that were potential users of the future XD cyberinfrastructure (as defined in the solicitation TeraGrid Phase III: eXtreme Digital Resources for Science and Engineering (XD)), but whose needs would not have been identified from the many surveys of TeraGrid users.
