These materials were used in Dr. Mary Bowden's Spring 2019 section of L204: Introduction to Fiction. The activity was designed by Dr. Bowden in collaboration with Mary Borgo Ton, the Digital Pedagogy Specialist for the Institute for Digital Arts and Humanities (IDAH), with assistance from Daniel Story, the Digital Methods Specialist for IDAH. Through the Digital Critical Edition Assignment, students annotated a digital copy of Lady Audley's Secret (1862), identified the novel's major themes and formal features, located moments for further study through network analysis, and wrote a paper on their annotation practices. "Course Materials" contains the syllabus, assignment instructions, in-class discussion prompts, teaching notes, and the Python script that we used to transform the Google Doc into a spreadsheet for further analysis. "Sample Student Work" contains the spreadsheet of all student annotations, plus examples of written reflections.
