Research

Founded in 2015, CASEL builds upon 20+ years of groundbreaking research that has made its predecessor, the Anthropological Center of Training and Research on Global Environmental Change (ACT), an international reference for developing and teaching methods linking in-depth local-scale field research (ethnographic, social survey, ecological) with geospatial analysis of regional-scale landscape change. See the projects page for a list of on-going research at CASEL,

Collaborators

Under the auspices of the Department of Geography and Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences, CASEL provides a collaborative research and training environment for faculty, visiting scholars, and graduate and undergraduate students. The CASEL laboratory has 15 workstations used for formal university classes in GIS, remote sensing, human-environment interaction, archeology, as well as for more individualized training.

CASEL is part of, and collaborates with, a network of centers and research groups at IU, including the Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis, the Center for the Study of Institutions, Population, and Environmental Change (CIPEC), the Integrated Program on Environment (IPE), and others.

Support

The Indiana Foodways Project is supported by an Office of the Vice Provost for Research Collaborative Research Grant. The project produces geospatial content related to foodways in the state of Indiana, ranging from raw data to highly produced story maps.
