These experiences where all Opera stakeholders (communities, students, and professionals) can interact and be part of the Opera experience in a sustainable way. By framing Opera and Arts as Cultural Commons, the dissertations allows a broader understanding of the full Opera complexities, their benefits to societies, and the responsibilities all society members have to secure their sustainability. Specifically, through in depth analysis of the concept of Opera Camps and multiple Opera programs around the globe (Chapter 1), Arts Administration Literature, and Polycentric and Cultural Commons Governance frameworks; the author creates the MAP Models (Music, Artistic, and Pedagogic governing models) for Opera Camps (Chapter 2). Similarly, the ABC Models (Administrative, Business, and Community Models) are addressed by the Author in other publications. The MAP and ABC Models identify the challenges and goals that need to be addressed in the creation and leadership of these Opera Camps defining the model that can be adapted under the unique specificities of the cities, opera companies, universities, or other entities interested in creating a viable and sustainable Opera experience.Item Symphony in colors, Scriabin's Prometheus : the poem of fire, op. 60(Indiana University, 2021-12-03) Samuel, TalItem Performing Bach cantatas with modern orchestras: a modern conductor's handbook for applying historically informed practice to today's ensembles(Indiana University, 2019-11-21) Lin, WilburItem Frances Stark's The magic flute (orchestrated by Danko Drusko), a pedagogical opera: conductor as collaborator(Indiana University, 2018-12-14) Drusko, Danko, 1982-The goal of this dissertation is to share a significant collaborative project which may be considered a forerunner for similar undertakings in the future. In it, the visual artist, Frances Stark, envisions a film version of the The Magic Flute. Due to her determination to cross boundaries, she collaborates with a conductor/arranger, popular music producer, orchestra manager, and young musicians in order to create a “pedagogical opera.” From a conductor’s point of view, it will be interesting to discover the precise role of conductor as collaborator, as well as learn how one establishes connections in the contemporary art scene. In addition to the collaborative aspect, the musical process shall be examined with as much detail as the visual artist’s. Because of the belief in the project’s role as a forerunner, its potential for future projects will also be discussed.Item The pedagogical philosophies & techniques of David Effron(Indiana University, 2018-12-06) Passmore, IanItem The pre-professional training orchestra: a comprehensive manual for conductors(2015-05-14) Kalia, RogerItem A graduate curriculum for orchestral conductors(2015-04-27) Mirakian, RobertItem A defense of Schumann's intentions for the orchestration of his symphony no. 3 "Rhenish"(2014-12-19) Koo, AbigailItem William Grant Still's Afro-American symphony: a critical edition(2014-04-23) Latshaw, Charles
