    Fostering the Future: Providing Support for Foster Youths Aging Out of the System

    Foster youths leaving the foster care system are far more likely to experience homelessness, unemployment, domestic abuse, and felony arrests. Many foster youths have expressed their desire for and the benefits of aftercare or support services when leaving the system. It is important to determine what support service will be most beneficial for foster youths leaving the system in Indiana to improve their outcomes and prepare them to enter society. Through secondary research, this study will analyze common outcomes for foster youths after leaving foster services, the support services most sought after by those involved in foster services, and different support services currently offered in the United States. Through primary research, this study will compile data on experiences with foster care services in Indiana through an original survey and interviews and examine current support services in Indiana. This research finds that aftercare systems implemented in other states have drastically improved outcomes for foster youths after leaving the system. Indiana must follow in their footsteps to support youths entering society and improve communities across Indiana.

    Fraying Legacies: The State of Indiana Agriculture, 1985 to Today

    This project applies the concept of sacrifice zones — areas exploited for profit/progress (Hedges and Sacco 2012) — to analyze how decades of consolidation, an aging workforce, and uneven investment have reshaped Indiana's farming landscape. Policy history, census data, and industry reports reveal how economic and technological forces have transformed family farms into contemporary sacrifice zones, highlighting challenges like generational turnover, farm closures, and rising start-up costs, and considers what the state's sustainable agricultural future might look like.

    Deviant Behaviors at Work: Examining Job Constraints and Interpersonal Conflict as Potential Causes Across Workplace Models

    Workplace deviance is a voluntary behavior that violates organizational norms and threatens the well-being of an organization or its members. This study investigated potential causes of workplace deviance, specifically interpersonal conflict and job constraints, relate to deviant behaviors directed at both individuals and the organization across various workplace settings. Results showed interpersonal conflict and job constraints significantly correlated with both types of workplace deviance; showing the highest correlation between job constraints and organizational deviant behaviors. Workplace models (remote, in-person, hybrid) had no significant impact on the mean levels of any of the four variables. These findings suggest that reducing job constraints is essential for minimizing workplace deviance, especially organizationally focused deviant behaviors.
