It builds directly on ARI’s development momentum and elevates creativity as infrastructure—vital to attracting residents, supporting employers, and defining a shared sense of place. This plan’s recommendations will be implemented and advanced by the Accelerate Rural Indiana Regional Development Authority. The ARI READI Steering Committee, ARI Arts & Culture Steering committee—consisting of leadership from: the city/town leadership of the ARI region, HWC Engineering, Batesville Area Arts Commission, Blue River Community Foundation, Economic Development Corporation of Greensburg/Decatur County, the Arts and Cultural Council of Decatur County, and others—will assist with implementation of the plan in partnership and under the purview of the ARI RDA. The proposed mural is intended to honor the founding of Vincennes while activating a prominent façade along a well-known downtown landmark. Paired with seating, the design envisions a gathering space that would encourage people to linger, reflect, and connect with the site’s history. In response, plans were developed to explore how visual elements could strengthen identity and improve wayfinding throughout the community. The proposal includes gateway signage to greet visitors entering Tipton, along with design concepts for asphalt murals and wayfinding signage located throughout town. Together, these elements aim to create a more cohesive and recognizable visual presence for Tipton.Item type: Item , Main Street Signage Poster(The Indiana University Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design and the Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement, 2025-12-28) Clensy, JulianIn Shoals, Indiana, efforts to strengthen Main Street continued through a second phase of coordinated storefront and signage design. Building on earlier work completed in 2024, comprehensive design students reconnected with local businesses and residents in 2025 to develop additional sign designs for remaining storefronts along Main Street. The expanded signage plan extends throughout the Shoals Historic River District, creating a more unified and recognizable visual identity for downtown businesses. Located in architecturally rich downtown Paoli, the design proposes seating, a dynamic pergola that combines function with artistic expression, accessible restrooms, and greenspace. The design envisions transforming the expanded space into a fully accessible environment that responds to current mobility and structural needs. Proposed improvements include chair lifts, fully ADA-compliant restrooms, and a new ramp at the front of the building, positioning the center to better serve visitors for years to come.Item type: Item , Lincoln Pinch Park Poster(The Indiana University Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design and the Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement, 2025-08-29) Clensy, JulianIn Nashville, Indiana, a parklet is being imagined as a new gathering space that reflects the town’s historic arts community while responding to the conditions of its setting. Plans for Lincoln Pinch Park propose shaded seating, space for food truck vendors, and areas for public art created by local artists. The design accounts for the site’s location within a floodplain, informing decisions about plantings, materials, and layout. The initiative blends restoration with innovation, introducing a welcoming plaza designed for gatherings, events, and everyday connection. A new logo and interpretive signage are included in the design to honor the site’s rich history, while the restored building anchors the project as a symbol of resilience.
