    This guide is intended for anyone looking to improve their community by developing quality of place initiatives through arts and culture. The guide is written for rural communities in the state of Indiana with a population between 4,000 and 15,000 people. While the resources and partnership information are tailored toward rural communities in Indiana, the process outlined in the guide is applicable to rural communities outside of Indiana as well as other communities looking to grow their cultural infrastructure.

    New book expands access to arts-based wellness for U.S. veterans across the world

    Creative Arts for Vets is a program that started in 2019 to bring various free arts and arts-based wellness exercises to veterans and service members in counties across Indiana. Today, that program has expanded to include a new book that is reaching veterans and service members across the globe. The project so far has received grants and funding from the Indiana Department of Health, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1587 and the IU Center for Rural Engagement.

    Serving Those Who Have Served: Creative Arts for Veterans

    This paper discusses Creative Arts for Veterans (CAV), a program launched in 2021 to connect veterans across the state of Indiana with the healing power of the arts. A collaboration between the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art, the Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement, and various community veteran and arts partners, Creative Arts for Veterans utilizes therapeutically informed arts-based approaches to assist veterans and their families in promoting general health and wellbeing. The origins of the pilot project, new adaptations and directions for programming, the overall approach to the program, program goals, and specific examples of programming are discussed.

    In the summer of 2021, a team of graduate students from Indiana University Bloomington's Paul H. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (O'Neill) assessed town priorities and developed a multi-phased implementation plan for turning residents' vision of Bloomfield into a reality.

    At the IU Center for Rural Engagement, we have seen an increase in community interest in heritage sites both as an outgrowth of our arts and cultural programming, and through a statewide project to link together sites around heritage trail themes.
