"Course Materials" contains the syllabus, assignment instructions, in-class discussion prompts, and teaching notes for a Digital Critical Edition of Lady Audley's Secret (1862) in Dr. Mary Bowden's Spring 2019 section of L204: Introduction to Fiction. Through this assignment, students annotated a digital copy of the novel, identified the novel's major themes and formal features, located moments for further study through network analysis, and wrote a paper on their annotation practices. The activity was designed by Dr. Bowden in collaboration with Mary Borgo Ton, the Digital Pedagogy Specialist for the Institute for Digital Arts and Humanities (IDAH), with assistance from Daniel Story, the Digital Methods Specialist for IDAH. This collection also contains the Python script that we used to transform a Google Doc into a spreadsheet in preparation for a network analysis of the novel's main themes.

Guide: Analyzing themes with network analysis
    (2019-01) Story, Daniel
This is the Python script that we used to transform annotations in Google Docs into a spreadsheet in preparation for network analysis on Day 8 of the Digital Critical Edition Assignment. The Python script is a version of Beautiful Soup. The readme file contains instructions on how to structure a Google doc version of a novel so that it can be used with the Python script. In order to use the code, you must have Python installed on your computer.
