According to Phyllis Bate, author of The Development of the Iron and Steel Industry in the Chicago Area (Ph.D dissertation, University of Chicago, 1948), in 1929, there were 4,600 employees at this plant. Unfortunately, we have only 105 personnel cards in this collection, with surnames beginning with the letters E and H. Each card lists the following information: Last Name; First Name; Age; and Race.
