With a classmate, I analyzed news and social media coverage of WCS’s 2019 $38M construction referendum, which was opposed by 61.3% of voters. This poster highlights findings from our analysis and reflection on my experience working on an allocative community identified project.Item A Proposal For A Green Roof At Indiana University Southeast(2021-04-23) Rodriguez, LuciaThis is a proposal for installing a green roof at IUS based on researched case study of previously built and assessed green roofs.Item A Scheduled Plan For an Indiana University Southeast Campus Garden(2021-04-23) Rodriguez, LuciaThis is a research-based proposal for a campus garden at IUS focused on providing a scheduled plan for a successful garden based on learning from previous garden successes and failures at other schools.Item A Sedimentological Analysis of the Tafagamanu Beach Sands of Savai’i(2019-04-19) Guernsey, CassandraThe results of sedimentological analyses of the Tafagamanu Beach Sands, on the island of Savai’i in Samoa are presented here. This poster explores the origins of these sands through the use of sedimentary petrologic and oceanographic analyses. The Tafagamanu Beach Sands are suspected to originate as lagoonal fill of mid-Holocene age which was subsequently remobilized. Preliminary analysis shows the sands are characterized as loose grains with an abundance of coral/shell fragments and coarse clastic materials. The relative abundance of coral fragments versus clastic inputs, and attempts to identify the source areas of the Tafagamanu Beach Sands will be discussed.Item American Indian Health Promotion and Screening at the Pine Ridge Reservation(2020-04-24) Eav, Serey; Shepherd, JordanAmerican Indians are at a disadvantage when it comes to resources, and that alone contributes to the limited education, early decline in health, and preventable illnesses. The senior nursing students of IUS provided free health screenings on an American Indian reservation that included blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels. The students further educated each participant on their health, promoted healthy habits, and encouraged follow up if needed. This poster will present how IUS senior nursing students used resources to provide health education and screening to the American Indian community at Pine Ridge and the results that followed.Item Analyzing Referendum Success in Hoosier Communities(2025-04) Dishno, Gabrielle; Doré, Shelby; Medina, Veronica (Faculty Sponsor)In 2019, the Washington Community Schools Corporation in Daviess County, Indiana, proposed a capital improvement referendum that failed by 61.3% percent of votes. This study analyzes social media and local news framing of the referendum. Based upon a literature review of public opinion and voting behavior frameworks, we identify strategies that could increase public support for future referendums. The project, conducted in collaboration with the IU Center for Rural Engagement’s Sustaining Hoosier Communities Initiative, aims to provide relevant recommendations to improve community engagement and enhance the effectiveness of messaging in future referendum campaigns.Item Applying Days of Destruction to a McDowell, WV County Profile(2024-04-18) Glenn, Xondrais M.The project will outline terms like sacrifice zones and leverage points and apply the importance of understanding them in a sociological context with real world examples. This will focus on multiple county profiles around an instance of a sacrifice zone to describe the conditions of a community’s physical health, social factors, risks the community faces, and points of resilience more accurately. Both scholarly and non scholarly credible news related research and data will be used as sources to frame the findings. The project takes inspiration from Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt by Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco.Item Autosomal Dominant Dandy-Walker Malformation with Occiptal Encephalocele (ADDWOC): A Review of the Literature and Exploration of Implications(2024-04-19) Roy, AndrewAutosomal Dominant Dandy-Walker Malformation with Occipital Encephalocele (ADDWOC), is a potentially fatal and extremely rare neurodevelopmental anomaly, with only thirty-three reported cases since 1887. It has been implicated that this malformation is associated with a genetic mutation that causes improper formation of the brain and surrounding tissues. By examining scientific literary journals and previous case studies, this presentation will attempt to inform an interdisciplinary audience about ADDWOC, symptoms associated with it, the mechanism by which it arises, possible treatment options, and the broader implications ADDWOC might hold in the scientific and medical community.Item Bad Boys Finish First: A Psychoanalysis of the Appeal of Bad Boy Characters to the Female Audience(2025-04) Lazrovitch, BladeIn modern romance, the bad boy character has taken the hearts of the female audience. As this archetype becomes more popular, it raises curiosity about the origin of this character and its allure. This research examines the historical origins of the bad boy character, how it has evolved to its current form, and the appeal to female audiences using a psychoanalytical lens.
