Item Get It in Writing: MOUs and Library/IT Partnerships(Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2007) Walters, Carolyn Mary; Van Gordon, Elizabeth AnnIncreasingly academic libraries are partnering with other campus units to improve efficiency and to better serve students and faculty. This paper aims to focus on the importance of developing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to foster a relationship between an academic library and IT unit. It seeks to identify what the MOU should include, pitfalls to be avoided, and lessons learned. It also proposes demonstrating how the MOU has been used as a model for other alliances and how, because of the MOU, a partnership has flourished.Item In Good Company: Engaging in the Maker Movement Alongside Campus Partners(Taylor & Francis, 2021-01-01) Nay, LeanneMakerspaces have become increasingly common in academic libraries, but libraries are not alone in their enthusiasm for the creative and innovative culture known as the maker movement. As more libraries develop makerspaces, so do other campus units and universities. This article presents a case study of the Indiana University Libraries’ makerspace initiatives and their role in a larger network of makerspaces on the IU Bloomington campus. The author synthesizes examples from several institutions to make recommendations for libraries looking to contribute to the maker culture at their institution.Item Leveraging Libraries to Support Academic Technology(IGI Global, 2008) Jagman, Heather; Koenig, Melissa; McDonald, Courtney GreeneThrough leveraging the relationship between libraries and technology, colleges and universities can make the best use of the skills that librarians bring to the table. At DePaul University, three positions have been created, which report to two campus units: The University Libraries and Instructional Technology Development. The consolidation of both library and instructional technology perspectives to create this first group of blended positions at DePaul has been successful, due in large part to the fact that the primary responsibilities of these positions are in areas of mutual interest: instruction, collection development, and technology support for faculty and students, whether on a consulting basis or at the reference desk. As libraries and librarians become ever more closely and actively aligned with the teaching mission of the university, universities and colleges can transform librarians’ roles within the academy by leveraging their skills to enhance teaching and learning in today’s online environment.Item Reference Services in the Commons Environment(Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2006) Dallis, Diane; Walters, CarolynThis review describes the services offered in an information commons that primarily serves undergraduate students at a large research university. This paper provides background information on the implementation of a learning or information commons and describes the effect of the commons environment on reference services and environment and highlights the importance of a strong relationship between libraries and information technology providers in developing successful public services in an information commons.
