Getting Started with the IUScholarWorks Repository

How do I get started?

Its easy! Contact us to create a Community for your department or unit. We'll make every effort to assist you with site management, document submission, or digitization of print documents. For more detailed information about the submission process, preparing files for submission, or acceptable file formats, please visit the Help menu on the main IUScholarWorks Repository page.

Information for Departments / Units Content in the IUScholarWorks Repository is typically arranged by department or unit, called a community, with papers grouped into cohesive collections.

To get started, departments should decide on:

  • Content they would like to distribute widely and preserve over the long-term
  • A contact person to work with the IUScholarWorks Repository team to set up and run the Community
  • The Community/Collection structure that is best for the department or units content
  • Metadata (descriptive cataloging information) (See how does IUSW make my work discoverable? in the FAQ for Submitters)
  • Individuals who will be allowed to submit materials

Information for Individuals

  • Individual Faculty: Faculty may deposit any items they choose through their departmental IUScholarWorks Repository communities, or into an open Faculty Research community. Please contact us and well explore establishing a community for your department if they do not yet have one, or will deposit your documents them for you in an open community if a departmental community is not an option.
  • Students Submitting Dissertations: In addition to granting permission to UMI to distribute your dissertation via UMI subscriptions and sales, you may also give Indiana University permission to distribute your dissertation via the IU Scholarworks Repository. Please contact us and we'll deposit it for you in an open Dissertations community.
  • Other Students: Students may submit their scholarly materials through their departments Community.
