Marcos J. Estrada Ruiz

Abstract

The paper presents the results of a social participation strategy implemented by the Municipal Council for Social Participation in Education in the Mexican township of Las Margaritas, Chiapas. The notion of social participation is problematized through an analysis of the relationship between civil society and the political sphere. The different types of participation adopted by the members of the school community are presented, and the agreed-upon needs of the actors are discussed, as well as the predominant fields of action.
