Cuernavaca, Morelos. April 05, 2011.

Dear Colleagues:

As editor of the Revista Interamericana de Educación para la Democracia/ International Journal of Education for Democracy (RIED/IJED), it is my pleasure to invite you to send in your research articles on education for democracy from any country in America and the Caribbean. The International Journal of Education for Democracy is an online bilingual journal, soon to be complemented with a printed series that for the last four years, has released one issue per semester.

The journal is sponsored and supported by the Organization of American States and their Inter-American Program on Education for Democratic Values and Practices, along with the Indiana University, the University of Toronto, and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

So far, we have received collaborations from several countries in America, insightful research articles addressing topics on democracy in education, the shaping of citizenship awareness as well as governmental and societal approach to education on a national and international level.

At the moment, we are inviting authors to send in any articles based on research results that might further the discussion on education for democracy, as well as offer analytical insight on the subject. Both these contributions may deal with the educational processes in school or extra-school environments; various aspects of educational policies, curricular developments; pedagogical practices or democratic teachings in urban scenes; government initiatives and civic organizations. The articles may analyze programs that specifically promote education for democracy, or may focus on other aspects clearly related to the subject, such as, intercultural education, education on human rights, education for peace, education for gender equality, government programs based on civic participation with citizenship building objectives.

If you are interested, please visit the journal’s official website http://www.ried-ijed.org/ where you will find more detailed information on the extension and style in which you can send your contributions.

   Yours sincerely,

Dr. Medardo Tapia Uribe
