The Indiana University Libraries and Indiana University Digital Library Program are conducting a project to host open access journals. Our goal is to provide server space and to support the use of Open Journal Systems (OJS) as a full-service publishing option for IU scholars who desire local control.
This online publishing system makes it possible to:
- Work within an open access or fee-based model (subscription or pay-per-view)
- Track the peer-review process and other administrative functions
- Maximize exposure and visibility of publications by making full-text accessible to Google Scholar and other search services
- Tailor the appearance and identity of publications
- Operate with IU's institutional repository
OJS is a journal management and publishing system that has been developed by the Public Knowledge Project through its federally funded efforts to expand and improve access to research.

Artifact
Artifact is an international research journal about design. It targets the international design research in an attempt at increasing knowledge sharing. Thus, Artifact is a platform for profiling design research. Artifact is mainly focused on design conceived in the technological and digitised world. The contributions to Artifact come from researchers in Denmark as well as the rest of the world, and the articles are carefully vetted according to common peer review criteria. Thus, the research articles are reviewed by at least two peers from different countries. The design profession has one foot in the practice field and one foot in theory. Artifact should reflect this fact.
On 6 December 2011, Artifact was relaunched as an Open-Access journal. Artifact premiered in 2007 as a print medium. The initiative to relaunch was taken by the Danish Centre for Design Research. The relaunch process involved a complete redesign of the layout, done by Per Mollerup, an editorial transfer to the Open Journal System and a relaunch of the journal in a pdf-format with free download access for everyone.
